Boglanders 5 - Post Apocalyptic and Fantasy

I've had fun putting some more of the Ramshackle Games Boglanders together, starting with some mutants for our next Mutants and Death Ray Guns game.

These three are looking for trouble! I have just attached the heavy weapon with some tacky wax so that I have the option of swapping it out for a sniper rifle if the scenario requires it.

More conventional (?) fantasy Boglanders, three of the skull-taker cult.

I wasn't sure what to do with this mini, so I gave him a variety of arms.

A wandering wise sage to assist a party of heroic adventurers?

A reliable guide through the darkness?

Or a bad-tempered old git with attitude, "Do you feel lucky, punk?"

And after my last game of Sellswords in a dungeon, I painted up a couple more of the Blacklist Games fantasy KS minis, to fill in some gaps in my selection of characters.

Boglanders 4 plus some footpads

I have managed to get a load more bits and pieces from the Boglanders painted.

Here's a group photo of the latest bunch!

With 63 different arms in the set, I wanted to be able to keep my options open for some of the minis. I like the idea of being able to swap arms around as required for different scenarios or genres.

So I am experimenting with this stuff, Tacky Wax. It's used a lot by railway modelers to place items in static displays, so that they can be re-positioned as needed. I thought I would give it a try and see if it holds arms firmly enough for use in gaming.

And here is the result.

This one is a really weird mutant that seems to be a bonus mini, it certainly did not appear in the original listing on Kickstarter. I felt he/it? has a post-apocalyptic vibe so I've chosen appropriate arms for that. I can see him appearing in a Mutants and Death Ray Guns scenario sometime soon.

Back to fantasy, these are the Wicker Wearers, a cult of warrior poets. (Boglanders are renowned for their bad poetry). Their armour is fairly effective, made from the roots of Bog Willows which as almost as hard as iron.

A collection of Bog Toads (a "Knot" apparently).

Some of the food tokens, I am sure I will find a use for these.

A fine assortment of treasure chests, eagerly sort by adventurers of all kinds....

....of course they need to watch out for mimic monsters!

Just for something different, I painted up a few Eureka cut-purses and footpads that had been sitting in my painting pile since I undercoated them last summer!

Cowboys and Zombies! My next Kickstarter finally arrives.

I finally took delivery of one of the kickstarters I backed in 2020. Covid and other problems caused delays, but it's finally here. Zombicide - Undead or Alive from CMON.

I have never played va Zombiecide game, but heard good things about them. But let's face it, I bought into this for the minis! I already had a few Zombicide figures in my collection, from their medieval game, but these were cowboys...and zombies....COWBOY ZOMBIES!!!

Unfortunatly I don't have much time this week (isn't that always the way?), so I have had to content myself with a quick unwrap and scan the contents, to be investigated in depth at a later date. At first glance I am not disappointed by the figures.

The survivor characters are great. As well as zombie games, quite a few will fit in with my conventional wild west gunfight games. I can also see a couple of new IHMN companies emerging from this lot! Several of the zombies are obviously western, but some will pass for generic victorian, so will fit in elsewhere as well.

Anyway, as I said, time is short, so here are my first pics. enjoy.

Some More Fantasy Painting

I've had the time to crack on with some more of the Blacklist Games Fantasy Kickstarter miniatures.

I am very pleased with how these are turning out, whilst not the best minis ever, they are mostly very usable and looking good painted up and great value for money. It is also nice to get a good selection of female characters in the mix as well.

A bandit, Vampire and female human rogue.

A bugbear and a horde of orcs, all the bad guy sword fodder come in a group of 5 of each pose. 5 is enough to be useful for most skirmish purposes, although the single pose is a a little limiting. That said, the Fantasy Set 2 Kickstarter, which I also bought into, will give me alternatives.

A horde of troglodytes.

A half-orc cleric (an interesting concept) takes on a giant spider.

Not from the Kickstarter, but something I picked up on Ebay last autumn (as you do).

Another bandit, a female half-orc rogue and an elf rogue. Why is it I seem to be painting up all the dodgier PC types first? These three will see service as assassins in the new Sellswords and Spellslingers scenario book I am currently writing.

Started painting my first Kickstarter minis

I thought I'd better start putting some paint of the Blacklist Games minis from the Kickstarter boxes (that have been sitting on the side for a few weeks now!). I quite impressed with the plastic figures, most of them a good, usable poses and they take paint well.

First up, a troglodyte, giant worm and a gnoll

A thief, ghoul and a construct

Dwarf wizard, inn keeper and giant rat

Finally a werewolf and a mummy.

I can see myself getting a lot of use from this set, the Dwarf wizard will be joining my Oathmark forces, the constructs will fit in nicely with my VSF stuff and the rest will get plenty of use in various Sellswords campaigns.

Just as well really, because I also bought into the Blacklist Games Fantasy 2 and Horror Kickstarters!

My First Kickstarter!

I have finally taken delivery of my first Kickstarter project!

It's Fantasy Series 1 from Blacklist Games, a staggering total of 201 fantasy minis, which should keep me going for a while!
The box was delivered on Saturday, which was annoying because I was working, playing  medieval/tudor music around various sites in Aylesbury for Heritage Open Days, so I had to wait until Sunday to examine the contents.

Opening the box and sorting through the extensive packaging, some interesting comes into view.

Here's the goodies, the smaller is box is the original product of 70 minis and the larger one contains the stretch goals.

The contents of the original product, nicely packed for transit in trays that will also be very useful for storage.

And now the stretch goals, including some BIG minis.

So what are my first impressions? On the whole, I am very pleased, great value for money certainly. The quality of the plastic minis is good, not as crisp as some of the metal sculps I have, but no worse that a good number of minis in my collection.
The humans are 28mm and seem to fit in with most of the stuff I already have. There are a few duff sculpts, the skeletons have either over-sized or shrunken heads for example, but mostly they are good poses.

It's a general fantasy collection, really intended for playing skirmish tabletop games in the style of D&D, rather than massed battles. There are minis I already have in my collection, skeletons/zombies/goblins, but some that I do not (and anyway you can never have enough zombies!).

Here's a close up of a robber, giant rat and zombie.

The troll from the larger beasties in the stretch goals.

One of the characters, a dwarf fighter.

Another character, a female half elf wizard.

Like I said, I am very please overall and can see most of the set being useful at some point, escpecially for things like Sellswords and Spellslingers.

It's just as well I like them, because I also bought into Blacklist games next two Kickstarters, Fantasy 2 and Horror!
